Greensburg, Kansas Devastated By F5 Tornado
May 4, 2007 was an eventful night for the residents of Greensburg, Kansas. Viewing pictures of the devastation left from this F5 Tornado, drives two points home emphatically. First, the heartbreak and despair felt by the survivors seeing foundation slabs swept clean by the forces of nature makes everyone want to say their prayers for these people. Second, Greensburg, built in Tornado Alley, is constructed inappropriately for these residents to be protected from this type of disaster.
In all, area tornados numbered 25 with 84 more happening on May5. The USA suffered 1095 tornados in 2007 alone, making the US the most active tornado community in the world.
Circle City is my answer to Tornado Alley and the folks that need to rebuild in the area. My sense is that many of the residents in Tornado Alley lack the financial resources to rebuild in a manner that would protect them in the future from the devastation of other tornados. However, with the funds that are dispersed through such organizations as FEMA and state counterparts, the building emphasis could be altered to ensure these people would not have to undergo similar results in the future.
